2024 was an impressive year for cruise at Copenhagen Malmö Port (CMP) – and 2025 looks even better. The year 2024 exceeded expectations for cruise passenger numbers, with a total just short of 1 million guests across Malmö, Visby and Copenhagen. In 2025, CMP expects to surpass the 1 million mark.
The training ship Georg Stage will be moored at CMP’s facilities at Nordre Toldbod in Copenhagen from 24 to 26 September 2024. The Georg Stage’s call at Nordre Toldbod emphasises the connection between the city of Copenhagen and its commercial port, the training of future seafarers, and the preservation of the strong and vibrant maritime tradition in Copenhagen and Denmark.
After phasing in HVO100 fuel, the fuel consumption in the container handling is now entirely fossil-free. This reduces the annual consumption of fossil diesel by over 286,000 litres and CO2e emissions by 640 tonnes.
Sweden’s core ports welcome the revised regulation on European Union guidelines for the development of the trans-European transport network (TEN-T) adopted by the European Council in mid-June. This week, Konecranes officially handed over eight hybrid Konecranes Noell Straddle Carriers to Copenhagen Malmö Port (CMP). These straddle carriers were ordered in Q2 2023 and are intended for the new container terminal in Copenhagen. The parts were delivered to CMP in Q4 last year and have been assembled and extensively tested on-site at the current container terminal.

A new shore power facility was inaugurated today at the DFDS terminal in Copenhagen by, among others, Copenhagen’s Lord Mayor Lars Weiss. The facility significantly reduces the ships’ CO2 emissions while they are in port, thus ensuring cleaner air for the benefit of the environment and even more so for the neighbours on Østerbro.
500,000 tonnes of CO₂ will be removed from the atmosphere annually, which will significantly contribute to Copenhagen’s goal of becoming the world’s first carbon neutral capital by 2025. These are the goals of a new CO₂ capture facility at Amager Bakke, where CMP is an integral part of the joint efforts with Amager Resource Centre (ARC).
