More salty handling in North Harbour

Freight handling in Northern Harbour has become more salty, at least temporarily. This is because a load of salt was redirected to North Harbour in late January as the quays in the bulk harbour in Malmö were full.

"We realised that there were going to be a lot of ships in the bulk harbour and obviously then wanted to find a flexible, new solution for the customer – a solution which moreover was based on us helping each other internally," reports Emil Nordström, Head of Liquid and Dry Bulk.

Storage in tentThe load of about 3,000 tonnes came from Portugal. Immediately after unloading onto the quay – which incidentally was performed by the mobile crane which was previously used in the bulk harbour - the salt was transported on to a storage tent in the bulk area a few kilometres away.

"It feels important that we are flexible and able to think along new lines to help the customers," says Johan Ullenby. “This was also a fast operation, where we needed to transport the salt onward in order to clear the quay in Northern Harbour for the arrival of the next container, " says Johan Ullenby, Head of North Harbour.
