Record number of Christmas cruises in 2018

Christmas and New Year is attracting cruise passengers to Copenhagen this year too, with CMP setting a new record of nine arrivals. As always, it is the Christmas markets in and around Copenhagen that the visitors want to experience.

CMP broke a new cruise record during 2018, receiving 865,000 passengers in Copenhagen. This record year is also an all time high for the traditional Christmas and New Year cruises.

”There are nine arrivals, and this is more than ever before,” observes Arnt Møller Pedersen, COO Cruise & Ferries at CMP. There are a lot of German and British passengers on these cruises, with the main attraction being the Christmas markets.

There are several such markets in Copenhagen, which many cruise passengers combine with shopping in the city centre that is bedecked with Christmas decorations. Tivoli is usually the most popular Christmas market, with some 800,000 visitors.
