Copenhagen attracting more Christmas cruises in 2017
Christmas is bringing cruise passengers to Copenhagen. This year there will be more Christmas and New Year cruises than usual. This December CMP will be welcoming around 6,000 passengers, who will visit attractions including the classic Christmas market at Tivoli.
It is now traditional for CMP to receive a number of cruises in December. This year it involves six Christmas and New Year cruises in Copenhagen.
“Over the years, it has primarily been British cruise passengers who have come to Copenhagen, but for the second year in succession we are now being visited by two Norwegian ferries in December,” reports Arnt Møller Pedersen, COO Cruise & Ferries within CMP.
Christmas markets are attractiveIt is principally the Christmas markets that attract cruise passengers this late in the year. There are several such markets in Copenhagen, which many people combine with shopping in the city centre that is festooned with Christmas decorations. Tivoli has one of the most popular Christmas markets. Every year it attracts some 800,000 visitors.
This year’s Christmas cruises start on 10 December when the ship Aurora arrives at Copenhagen. This is followed by a further five arrivals, concluding with the Norwegian ship Bergensfjord on 31 December.
“CMP will be receiving about 6,000 passengers in December. This is more than usual and the Christmas cruises are thus also contributing to CMP setting a new record with a total of 850,000 passengers for the 2017 cruise season,” Arnt Møller Pedersen says.
