CMP launches procurement of biogas for facilities in Malmö
Copenhagen Malmö Port (CMP) published a procurement for biogas in Malmö on 1 October 2026. CMP has used biogas to heat seven facilities in Malmö port since 2021, and the new procurement will secure a supplier for the next eight years.
The tender covers the delivery of biogas for heating seven facilities in Malmö port. The objective is to enter into an eight-year framework agreement with one supplier, starting on 1 January 2027.
CMP replaced fossil natural gas with biogas in Malmö in 2021. Biogas is a renewable fuel produced from organic material, including food waste, and forms part of a circular use of resources. Through agreements on biogas and the associated sustainability documentation, it is ensured that an amount of biogas corresponding to the operation’s consumption has been produced and injected into the gas grid.
When the transition was made in 2021, CMP estimated that biogas could reduce CO2 emissions from the combustion process in the heating boilers by approximately 70 per cent compared with natural gas. Some boilers were replaced, while older boilers were adapted to run on biogas.
The new procurement continues this transition by ensuring a long-term supply for CMP’s facilities in Malmö.
