The tender process reg. equipment for the new container terminal in Copenhagen has started - sustainability in focus
The tender documentation relating to equipment for the relocation of the container terminal to Ydre Nordhavn in Copenhagen has been made public. This deals with two different tenders. One tender is for two STS cranes for the new container terminal, and the other tender is for straddle carriers, with the first three to be used at the existing terminal at Levantkaj.
CMP has a focused goal to become one of the world’s most sustainable ports by 2025 and this is permeated in the requirements imposed on our suppliers and in the specifications. For example, with the assessment of tenders submitted, CMP places as much emphasis on environmental aspects as the financial aspects.
“As a port, we not only have a social responsibility to contribute with more sustainable solutions but also to facilitate an improved working environment for our dockers. Among other things, the possibilities for tenderers to offer diesel-electric solutions for straddle carriers has therefore been eliminated. Instead, we welcome more sustainable solutions such as hydrogen, hybrid and electric battery that together contribute to a more sustainable business in the future,” comments Povl Dolleris Røjkjær Ungar, COO, Copenhagen Malmö Port.
The goal is to have the successful tenderers of the two tender processes selected by the end of 2022.
“The fact that the tender processes are underway is an important milestone for us and an important investment for sustainable vital freight flows, not only for Copenhagen and the Capital region, but also for the whole of Zealand,” concludes Povl.
By & Havn is the developer, and CMP will operate the terminal when it is completed. By & Havn participated in a tender process for the construction company itself earlier this spring. It is expected to be official who the construction contractor will be during the second half of 2022.
